Weather and workload may have kept this thing around a little longer.
The issue started getting reported to the forums on the 10th:

KB2887595 and KB2903939 were the culprits. It was, again, an order of operation thing.
I have granted the Venue a stay of execution. Especially since I have given away my Surface RT.
I love the RT tablet and wish the marketing and education describing what it is was understood by more people.
But that's a post for another day. For now, it appears this Venue 8 Pro issue is somewhat resolved.
